Baptism of Fire & Holy Ghost.
What Is the Baptism of Fire & Baptism of the Holy Ghost?
The baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost is the culminating event a person receives after diligently following Jesus Christ, repenting of his/her sins, and obeying the voice of the Spirit by offering up the sacrifice of a broken heart and contrite spirit (see 2 Ne. 31:17-19; 3 Ne. 9:20).
This experience is an extremely powerful spiritual event for the recipient, and it consists of several important elements:
- Jesus has personally pleaded for the individual before the Father to receive permission to adopt him/her as his son or daughter.
- The person is surrounded by and filled with heavenly fire. Whether seen or unseen, it is always undeniably felt and can be both physically and spiritually overwhelming. (Acts 2:1-3; Helaman 5:38-48; 3 Nephi 19:13-15)
- The person is ministered to by angels, either seen or unseen.
- The person is filled with unspeakable joy
The baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost also accomplishes several important aspects in a person’s spiritual advancement:
- The person’s sins are remitted and they are sanctified, or made holy, i.e., a saint.
- The name of Christ is officially extended to the person, whereas prior he/she has only been willing to take it upon themselves.
- The person becomes a son or daughter of Jesus Christ, “born again” spiritually of him. This is often referred to as becoming a son or daughter of God. We become his adopted children. This is the law of adoption; Christ is the only name by which we are saved.
- The person becomes “one with Christ,” or is “justified” in him and before him.
- The person’s blood becomes pure blood Israel and of the seed or lineage of Abraham.
- The person is ascended to the level of “elect” or “chosen.” Also referred to as receiving their calling and election (not to be confused with having their calling and election made sure).
- The person now has the gift of the Holy Ghost, which is a gift of accessing higher revelation to be instructed on how to approach the veil, part it, and enter Christ’s presence in the fulness of his glory.
- They receive the witness from the Holy Ghost to know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that God the Father is the God of us all.
The baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost is the event that saves or redeems an individual. Prior to this experience, a person is not considered “saved” or “redeemed.”
